Band Notes - March 2016

This is the first in what is intended to be a monthly series intended to capture anything newsworthy about the Band and its activities. We will continue to post reports on any special events here whilst on our Facebook page we will try and keep our "likers" informed of our upcoming events and to share pictures and videos.

The last month has seen a significant increase in the size of the Band. We have welcomed Stephen Starkes (Baritone) from the YP Band as well as no less than four new transfers - John Bailey and Norman Jacob (Cornet), Fraser Smith (Horn) and Norry Smith (Euphonium). These additions take us to more than 40 playing in the Band at present - and give us quite a challenge to fit into the available space on the platform!

Another, not so welcome, change came at the end of the month when Malcolm Randell stepped down from his role as Deputy Bandmaster. We sincerely thank Malcolm for all he has done in that capacity - we will miss his contributions as part of the band locals team - but look forward to his continued presence in the trombone section (and elsewhere in the Band!).

Whilst the month started quietly for the Band there was nothing quiet about the final weekend when the General came to town to lead the Easter Convention. All the details of the Band's contribution to the weekend are in the previous news item. The volume of sharing on social media of various aspects of the weekend was a great example of how the message that we are proclaiming can be broadcast far, far wider than the four walls of our citadel.

If you are sharing on Facebook - we would encourage you to share it to our Facebook page - we have many people throughout the world who follow the Band in this way and who are always grateful to receive news about what the Band are doing.

There have also been a number of changes to this website during March. The most significant one is on the recordings page where it is now possible to listen to our "back catalogue" online. The work on the website will continue over the next few months with a couple of initiatives already underway to increase the usefulness of the content.

Please contact us if you have any suggestions or, even better (!), if you have content that would enhance the website.
